1. Breathe!
The most important thing is to remember you are not alone in this. Everyone is in the same exact boat and is just as nervous about starting this new chapter in their lives.
It can be overwhelming but it’s important to remember this so that you don’t get too worried. It’s all going to be okay, I believe in you!
2. Stay organized
The most challenging thing for me in high school, especially during my freshman year, was learning how to organize the work for all of my classes.
The best ways to stay organized in high school are to keep a planner and write down all of your assignments.
I talk more about planners in hack #4 but they seriously will help you stay so much more organized!
3. Stay after with your teachers
It’s a common misconception that staying after is a weakness as it shows you need extra help.
However, taking advantage of extra help is the smartest thing you can do for yourself. You will be more prepared for quizzes and tests because you stayed after for extra practice.
Staying after also helps to create better relationships with your teachers which never hurts!
4. KEEP A PLANNER
Keeping a planner is my favorite of these 10 high school hacks! If I had to choose only one thing to bring with me to school every year it would be a planner.
My planner keeps me super organized and helps to ensure that I don’t forget any important assignments.
If you’re looking for an awesome planner to use I recommend this planner brand. I have tested a lot of different planners and none compare to the happy planner.
They are super cute and customizable to suit your personal style.
They even sell stickers packs to make your planner even more fun and creative!
P.S. Try your best to write everything down in your planner. There were many times when I got lazy and didn’t write down page numbers because “I would remember” and then when I got home had already forgotten.
Don’t be that girl, learn from my mistakes, and please write everything down. If you get a Happy Planner or any other type let me know how you like it!
5. Get fun colored pens!
I find that it’s so much easier to stay organized and keep up with my planner and notes when I have fun and happy colors to write with.
I also LOVE to doodle which is much easier to do with fun colored pens.
My absolute favorite pen brands are the Zebra Mildliner double-ended pens and Staedtler Triplus Fineliner pens.
I love Mildliner marker pens because they have two sides. One side is a skinnier marker and the other side is like a highlighter.
Staedtler fine liner pens are my favorite pens! I love using them in my planner because they don’t bleed through paper.

6. Keep an Everyday Folder!
Teachers will sometimes give you generic papers that don’t relate to your class such as; your schedule, events happening at the school, school picture forms, etc.
Putting these documents in a separate folder that you bring to school every day will make you less likely to misplace them and keep you more organized.
7. Study with Friends!
Studying with friends is a great way to be productive while having fun and enjoying each other’s company. Just make sure that you’re able to work together without getting too distracted.
8. Use Quizlet or Flashcards!
In my opinion, Quizlet and/or flashcards are crucial study tools for high school. Flashcards are a great way to reinforce information and will help you study much more effectively.
Quizlet is a FREE app/website that allows you to make flashcards online and creates activities to help you study them.
I have over 200 Quizlet sets (I know, crazy!) and could not have gotten through high school without them. You can also send them to your friends and they will forever be grateful to you!
Quizlet also allows you to print your deck in a convenient and organized list if you prefer a physical list to study from. I swear using Quizlet and making flashcards in high school will help you get much better grades.
9. Be Productive!
High school is a great place to learn about time management.
I have found that the best ways to stay productive are to block out certain time frames every day that you dedicate to homework and projects. This will keep you from falling behind in school.
If you manage your time effectively you will also have plenty of time to spend doing other things like participating in extracurriculars, relaxing, watching tv, etc.
Being organized will also help you stay productive and ultimately conquer freshman year!
10. Embrace school
It’s easy to let school become a negative thing, especially when everyone else is thinking it too. We really are lucky to be able to go to school and have teachers who are there to help us learn.
If you weren’t at school, wouldn’t you eventually get bored? And then what…? So many people go through life without access to education, and your education is what allows you to pursue your passion later in life.
Try to be positive and embrace high school, a positive attitude will make it so much more enjoyable!
Advice: I know freshman year can be scary but I promise you are going to be okay. If you keep an open mind and follow these 10 tips you will do great!
It can be nerve-racking to start something new but remember that everyone else is feeling the same way you are. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and talk to new people.
If you and your best friends aren’t in as many classes together as you would have hoped for it is okay. It’s the perfect opportunity to talk to new people. You never know who your future best friends could be.
You will still be able to find times to hang out with your old friends while making new ones. If you have any questions or concerns about high school leave me a comment and I will be happy to answer. Let me know what you are most excited about in high school as well!
You are going to do amazing! 🙂
