6 Essential Technology Items All College Students Need!

1. Laptop:

A laptop is one of the most important pieces of technology that you will need in college! I did so much work on my laptop freshman year.

If you’re looking for a perfect college laptop, I recommend this ASUS laptop. It is the one that I used during my freshman year of college and still use today.

I have the Core m3 version which works great! To help show why this computer is so amazing I wrote a pros and cons list below. I hope it helps!

Pros:

The screen is 12.5 inches which in my opinion is the perfect size for a college laptop.

It is a touchscreen and doubles as a tablet because it can rotate 360 degrees on a hinge which is so cool!

This laptop is only 2.65 pounds (super lightweight!) Because of this it is so easy to carry around campus.

The battery lasts up to 10 hours which is awesome!

The performance is very fast!

Cons:

If you use it for too long without shutting it down all of the way it will become slow. This only happened to me once when I was blogging on it for a consistent two days without shutting it down.

This is normal for most computers. If it is ever slow, simply shut it off for a couple of minutes, turn it on and it will be good as new!

This laptop was a lifesaver in college! My freshman year would have been so much harder without a quality laptop like this one.

I also love this laptop because it has allowed me to start this blog, which I really enjoy! If you are looking for a great college laptop I definitely recommend this one.

2. Surge Protector:

Extension cords aren’t allowed in most dorm rooms because they are fire hazards. An easy replacement is a long surge protector or power strip.

I used this Belkin power strip my freshman year and it was amazing! I still use it in my room at home and it’s great!

3. Air-pods/Ear Phones:

Earphones are super helpful in college, especially if you’re living with roommates.

If you’re living with roommates you won’t want to disturb them at night. Earphones will allow you to listen to music or be on your phone without bothering others.

(I have these air-pods and used them during my freshman year as well. I still use them all of the time and they are amazing!)

4. Long Phone Charger:

Make sure to pack a long phone charger (10 feet or more) for college. Usually the outlets in dorm rooms are not conveniently located.

A long charger will allow you to use your phone while it is charging!

5. Portable Charger:

A portable charger like this one is super helpful on really busy days! I definitely recommend bringing a portable charger if you struggle with phone battery life like me, haha.

6. Portable Speaker:

I completely forgot to bring a speaker to college which I regretted. It would have been so nice to play music in our room.

I have this OontZ speaker and it’s awesome! The sound is super clear and it’s a pretty inexpensive speaker.

About Me

I'm glad you're here!

My name is Emily and I started Positivity is Pretty six years ago when I was in college. Back then, it was the place for all things college, roommates, and dorm decor. Since then, it has grown with me into a space to reflect on life’s messy, busy, and beautiful parts while practicing real, intentional positivity. While you’ll still find pieces of college life and other popular content here, my hope is to use this space to write about apartment life, relationships, making friends in your 20s, healthy habits, and finding ways to enjoy movement. My goal is that Positivity is Pretty helps you notice the good and find calm through life’s ups and downs.
