10 Super Helpful College Items
1. Mattress Topper:
If you’re going to college, I promise that you need a mattress topper! I had no idea how awful and uncomfortable college mattresses are until I got to my dorm room on move-in day.
Recently, I got a 4-inch mattress topper like this one for my bed at home and dorm room this fall and it’s the best! I have never slept better in my life and my bed is so cozy!
Make sure to grab a twin xl when buying a mattress topper to fit dorm room beds.

2. Pop-Wallet:
I used my pop-wallet literally every single day during my freshman year and still use it today! I always joke around that it was the best $25 I ever spent.
Seriously though, I have gotten so much use out of it because it’s just so convenient. It’s the perfect place to put your student ID and other important cards. That way you don’t have to carry a wallet or purse around.
If you already bring your phone with you everywhere, I promise you’ll love this product!!
3. Drying Rack:
One of my roommates from freshman year is literally SO good at college packing and somehow knew we would need a drying rack. I would never have thought to bring one but it turned out to be extremely helpful!
You will probably have some clothes that you don’t want to put in the dryer which is where a drying rack like this one comes in super handy!
This drying rack is the one my roommates and I used. It works really well and is excellent quality! The best part is, it is foldable so it will not take up a lot of room when it isn’t being used (AKA it is super dorm friendly, haha!)
4. Bed Rest Pillow:
One thing I regret not bringing my freshman year is a bed rest pillow. Both of my roommates had super soft Ugg ones and I was so jealous. They make it so much more comfortable to sit in your bed and do work or just relax.
(This best rest pillow has the best reviews on Amazon and is made with memory foam.)

5. Brita:
I had no idea how helpful having a Brita in my dorm would be. Having a Brita like the one below is a super convenient way to have access to filtered water.
My roommates and I loved our Brita freshman year! It is nice knowing that the water you’re drinking is extra clean.
6. Fridge & Microwave:
I promise that every dorm room needs a mini-fridge and microwave! I knew this before I moved in but I had no idea how often my roommates and I would use them.
A couple of days ago, I learned that some colleges provide students with these appliances which is so cool! My school doesn’t though.
Here are some examples of awesome microwaves and fridges for your dorm room that you’ll get a ton of use out of!
7. Stool:
Bringing a small stool of some sort is super important if you’re planning on raising or lofting your bed.
I raised my bed and didn’t have a stool, so I literally jumped into bed every night (not going to lie, I thought it was kind of fun, haha!) However, my roommates had mini stools, and it was a lot easier for them to get into bed!
(Here is an example of the perfect type of stool for your dorm room. Another awesome idea is to use a small storage ottomans like this one because it will provide extra storage, seating and can be used as a stool!)
8. Fun-Tak:
I always joke around that I don’t know how I lived for 17 years without knowing about fun-tak!! If you are planning on sticking anything that is relatively light to your dorm room walls, definitely use fun-tak!
It is super sticky and won’t damage walls. Initially, I hung up a ton of pictures with washi tape, and they kept falling. Thankfully, my roommate let me borrow her fun-tak to hang up my photos, and they never fell again!
(I promise, fun-tak is literally a dorm decorating essential!)
9. Broom & Dustpan:
A broom and dustpan like this are super helpful college essentials! My roommates and I used ours almost every day.
I had no idea when I got to college how often we would use our broom.
10. Small Vacuum
My roommate brought a small vacuum for our room and it was super helpful! This Bissell vacuum is my favorite because it works really well and is super compact (perfect for a dorm room!)
