Decorating your dorm allows you to make it feel homier and add your personality so that the space feels more like you. Whatever you’re vibe is, you can create a cool dorm room that is the perfect place to hang out in after a busy day.

1. Comforter
When decorating a dorm room, a good place to start is by thinking about what color you want your comforter to be. For example, do you want a comforter that has a pattern or is a solid color?
The comforter is what most people will see when they walk into your room so it’s a good place to base the color scheme for the rest of your room off of.
2. Accent Throw Blanket
If you choose a solid color comforter, adding an accent throw blanket to the end of your bed that has a pattern will look really nice.
If you opt for a comforter that has a pattern, adding a solid color throw blanket will be a nice touch to your dorm bed.
3. Curtains
Curtains really help to make your room feel homier. Even if you don’t think you need curtains, you will be so glad that you have them once you see your room all put together.
4. Rug
A rug will also help to bring your dorm room together and add some more color into your room.
5. Wall Flag
Flags are a very popular decoration for guy’s dorm rooms. They are great because they decorate a lot of wall space with minimal effort. They are also inexpensive.

If you’re hanging a frame like the one above, use velcro command strips. I use them to hang heavier items like my mirror and frames in my dorm room. They work great!
13. Food Area
A food/snack area is essential in college! You can create a little area with your mini-fridge, microwave, keurig, and any other kitchen appliances that you have. You can also use a shoe organizer to hold all of your snacks. This will also make it super easy to grab snacks before you leave your room.

A TV/gaming station may sound like it’s just for fun, but it can actually be part of your room’s decoration, especially if you make it look cool like the picture above.

Okay, dorm rooms are small. But if you think you’ll be able to fit a gaming chair, it would be so cool!

LED light strips are very popular guy dorm room decor. You can hang them around the top of your walls. It will make your room a lot brighter too which is really good because dorm rooms are dark so you’ll want as many lights as possible.

One of the best ways to organize your desk is to use plastic desk drawers organizers so that everything has a place and your drawers don’t become junk drawers.
I also recommend keeping what is on your desk very minimal. You really just need space for your laptop, some pens/pencils, and a lamp.

Under-bed storage is a game changer in college. Dorm rooms are small so you will want to maximize your space with under-bed storage.
You can use a storage ottoman as under-bed storage, a stool if your bed is raised and as extra seating when friends come over.
You can also put your laundry basket and a 3 drawer unit under your bed for more storage.

A bean bag chair will look cool in your room and be so comfortable! All of your friends will want to sit in it.
