If you’re getting ready to student teach, this post has all of the best products that make student teaching so much easier! I am so excited for you because student teaching is such a great experience!!
I am a college senior and just finished my first semester of student teaching. After trial and error, I found the best of the best products that I love and seriously use every day!
Now, I am getting ready to start my second semester as a 4th grade student teacher and know all of these things will continue to be so helpful!!
1. Himawari Backpack:
This backpack went viral on Tiktok as the perfect student teaching backpack! My roommate who is also a student teacher gave me one for my birthday (regular size) and it’s actually so perfect for teaching!
Not only is it super cute and unique looking, it has a protective sleeve for your laptop and can hold a lot of books, binders, folders, and school supplies!
My roommate bought herself one too and we both use ours everyday. We also always say it’s the thing we get the most compliments on (which is always nice!)
2. Teacher Lanyard:
When I saw this lanyard on Instagram, I knew I needed one for student teaching!! It just makes me feel like such an aesthetic student teacher, haha!
I know that sounds dramatic, but seriously look at how cute it is!
Hailey has a small town business called SouthernWhimsiesVA and is always coming out with the best designs!
Not only do I love wearing my lanyard everyday, they also make the best gifts! I bought one for my roommate and clinical educator at the end of student teaching last semester. She loved it!! 🙂
3. Stanley Water Bottle:
Really any quality water bottle that makes you happy will work perfect for student teaching, but if you’re looking for a recommendation, I love my Stanley bottle!
I have the 30oz Stanley IceFlow Stainless Steel Tumbler and find it to be the perfect size! It fits in my cup holder and keeps my water cold all day.
I also like that I can put the straw down because it makes me feel like less germs get on it at school.
4. Comfortable and easy teacher shoes:
When I first started student teaching, I had the hardest time finding shoes that were professional and comfortable.
My college is super strict about our dress code, so we aren’t allowed to wear open-toed or sneakers when we teach.
At first, I bought some black flats from Marshall’s and they were comfortable and easy to throw on every day.
Once it started to get colder, I bought Dr. Scroll’s Non Stop Chelsea Boots which are basically like ankle booties that look good with most teacher pants.
Now that I am a student teacher in the winter, I bought some boots in different colors (white, black, tan) that I love! They make getting ready in the morning a lot easier!
I bought the white boots above from Amazon, which look cute with my white sweaters! They are also surprisingly comfortable. I bought a size 9.5 and I am usually a 9. They fit perfectly!
I also bought some Dolce Vita booties similar to these in light brown/tan that I love!!
5. Teacher survival kit:
I recommend putting together a little pouch full of “survival items” that you might need at school.
Things like Advil, hair scrunchies, tampons, pads, chapstick, floss, mints/gum, deodorant, perfume, disinfectant wipes, pens, highlighters, and granola bars/snacks can come in very handy!
I definitely recommend keeping some extra snacks in your backpack because I have forgotten my lunch before and it’s the worst feeling having to get through the day without food.
6. Vitamins/Immunity Boost Tea!
Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor or healthcare professional. Consult a doctor to recommend the best vitamin for your age and condition.
I really hope this is not your experience but ever since I started student teaching, I get sick a lot easier!! People used to tell me that, and I ignored them because I never used to get sick.
I would definitely recommend buying some sort of vitamin. I honestly don’t have a particular recommendation but I take one with vitamin C and Zinc.
Ever since I started student teaching, I suddenly drink tea now too haha. I drink an immunity boosting tea that I get from Aldi that I really like.
It has turmeric in it which is really good for you. I put lots of honey in it too. Something about drinking tea on the way to student teaching is also just comforting and makes my morning better.
7. Hot Beverage Travel Cup:
Whether you’re drinking coffee or tea in the morning, you’ll want a hot beverage travel cup, in addition to your water bottle.
My roommate got me this adorable personalized teacher travel tumbler for christmas and I use it every morning for my tea.
There are also a lot of other cute ones on Amazon too!
8. Silk Pillowcase:
Because your immune system is basically under attack while student teaching, I have found getting a consistent amount of sleep to be really helpful!
I got silk pillowcases for Christmas and I honestly get a better night’s rest with them. They are just so comfy!
I also heard they are good for your hair which is always a plus!!
9. Planner, Pens, Highlighters
Student teaching is a busy time in your life and it’s super helpful to write all of your assignments and lessons down! I definitely recommend using a planner or this free to do list!
These are the best pens and highlighters! Someone gave them to me when I was in 8th grade and they are still my favorite!
The pens don’t bleed through paper so they are perfect for writing in your planner! And the highlighter colors are so pretty.
10. Student Teaching Binder:
OMG the amount of papers I have is crazy! You’ll definitely want a planner to organize all of your papers and the different subjects.
11. Easy Makeup
If you like wearing makeup (you totally don’t have to), an easy and fast makeup routine is the best for student teachers!
Some of my go-to products in the morning are Telescopic mascara, It Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF, Hoola bronzer, and Milani blush.
12. Hair Tools
I feel like I always have to style my hair in the morning so most mornings I use my Conair Straightener.
It’s the BEST straightener ever. I got mine in middle school and still use it today! I also just got a Bed Head 1 inch curling wand, which I use some mornings too!
Using claw clips is also a good way to do your hair super fast in the morning.
13. Quality Teacher Pants and Sweaters
I have the best luck with finding teacher pants at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. I have some that are boot cut and some that are tighter around the ankle.
In the winter, sweaters and teacher pants are a great combination and makes getting ready really easy! Before it gets cold, I wear more blouses and dresses that I usually find from Marshalls and TJ Maxx.
14. Lunch Box
You will definitely want a cute lunch box that you can pack your lunches in every day. Amazon has a ton of perfect options!
15. Good playlist
I am not a morning person so I made a playlist to listen to while getting ready and on my way to the school. I love music so it definitely makes my mornings better!
16. Stickers
Having some fun stickers to use on your students’ papers is always handy! Your teacher will probably have a ton of stickers you can use too but I like having some of my own too.
17. Morning and Night Time Routine
Student teaching is such a crazy experience! Like, you’re still a college student, but you’re also working a full time job.
It’s a lot of hard work and can feel very repetitive at times. You just have to remember how much of an impact you’re making in your student’s lives. They are so happy to have you!!
I have found it very helpful to implement a morning and night time routine that I look forward to every day. My routines also help guarantee the following day is good because I am well rested and had some time to myself.
You’re going to be an amazing teacher!! I hope these student teaching essentials help you as much as they help me!
