1. Mini Fridge & Microwave:
Every dorm room needs a mini-fridge and microwave! I recently learned that some colleges provide students with these appliances but my school sure does not haha.
These are some highly-rated and affordable mini-fridges and microwaves in different sizes. I know that fridges can be expensive but if you’re going to splurge on one thing, it should be your fridge because you’ll use it a lot!
Make sure to check what sizes your school allows. Also, talk to your roommate about what appliances you’re each bringing for your dorm.
2. Keurig:
Do you like coffee, tea, and/or roman noodles? If so, you’ll get tons of use out of your Keurig! They are great for making delicious coffee, tea, or hot water to add to a cup of noodles.
My roommates and I used the first keurig below and it’s amazing!!
3. Brita:
Having a Brita in your room is a super easy and convenient way to have access to filtered water.
My roommates and I loved our Brita freshman year! It is nice knowing that the water you’re drinking is extra clean.
4. Microwavable Dishes:
For some reason, I didn’t bring a set of microwavable dishes to college when I first moved in which I regretted.
You don’t need a lot of dishes but should bring a plate, bowl, and mug that can all be microwaved. Having dishware makes it much easier to make tea/hot chocolate, eat take out, or make some ramen.
5. Lots of Snacks & Snack Clips:
Make sure that you have a lot of snacks for your dorm room! I recommend having a lot of granola bars and fruit snacks in case you wake up late and need something to eat super quickly on the way to class.
You should also stock up on all your favorite snacks! Some of my favorites are popcorn, ramen noodles, mac & cheese, cheez its, Chex mix, goldfish, etc.
Also, keep a couple of extra snacks in your backpack in case you ever get hungry.
6. Water Bottle:
Bringing a good water bottle to college and staying hydrated is so important! I recommend buying a super sparrow bottle or hydro flask for college.
I have really been loving my super sparrow water bottles lately! They come in SO many different (and CUTE) colors and sizes. These bottles also keep your drink cold or hot for hours!! The best part is that they are super inexpensive for the amazing quality!!
7. Paper Plates:
Having paper plates in your room is very helpful, especially when you order takeout with friends!
8. Plastic Silverware & Napkins:
It’s also nice and convenient to have plastic silverware and napkins in your room!
9. Food Organization:

My food was not organized enough freshman year and it was stressful! Try to find some inexpensive ways to store your food like the ones below. I promise it will help you!
I used a clear plastic bin during my freshman year to store my food but it wasn’t big enough.
The rolling carts below would be a great place for you and your roommates to store all of your snacks and food supplies (dishware, plastic silverware, paper plates, napkins, etc.)
I also think the over the fridge caddy below is such a smart idea!
