1. Do something you love every day:
In order to live a positive lifestyle and practice self-care, you need to spend time doing things that you enjoy and put a smile on your face.
One of the best ways to practice self-care is through journalism. Considering getting a self-care journal like this one to track your everyday self-care practices.
Suggestions:
- Art/doodle
- Dance
- Journal
- Paint your nails
- Read
- Scrapbook
- Watch TV/movies
2. Focus on healthy living:
Try to eat more healthy foods, get more sleep, exercise more, and manage your stress in various ways.
I’m not a very healthy eater but I do love smoothies!! I have perfected a smoothy recipe that is actually really healthy (but doesn’t taste healthy so I like it, haha.)
Here is my go-to smoothie recipe if you want to give it a try. Originally I found this recipe from barefootinthekitchen.com, however, I have tweaked it a little bit.
PS. don’t be grossed out or scared by the spinach. The peanut butter masks it so you can’t even tell it’s there. I don’t eat many vegetables and putting spinach in my smoothies allows me to get the vitamins I need without having to eat a ton of veggies. The spinach is completely optional though! 🙂
I use this Ninja Blender to make my smoothies and it’s the best! It blends everything with ease and doesn’t leave chunks.
Peanut Butter Banana Spinach Smoothie:
You can also split the recipe in half if you would like.
- First, 1 cup of milk (I use coconut milk but any kind will work)
- Next, 2 cups of baby spinach (sometimes I do one cup of spinach, one cup of kale)
- Then, 2 frozen bananas (I usually do one to one and a half)
- 2 tables spoons of peanut butter
- A handful of other frozen fruit (I usually add in a handful of some other frozen berries just to change up the favor) This step is optional and depends on what mood I’m in.
I would love to hear what you think! If you try this recipe, tag me on Instagram @positivityispretty
3. Read a couple of positive quotes in the morning:
I love reading positive quotes because they always help me look on the bright side of things.
I actually wrote a blog post on my 21 favorite positive quotes for motivation. You should totally check out this post if you’re looking for some awesome positive quotes! 🙂
4. Listen to your favorite music:
I love listening to music because it always puts me in a better mood! If you enjoy music try listening to your favorite music a little bit every day.
If you’re looking for some music suggestions, check these songs and albums (my absolute favorites) out:
- Taylor Swift (all albums!)
- AJR music
- Kelsea Ballerini’s new album Kelsea
5. Listen to a positive/motivating podcast:
Podcasts can be super motivational and will make you think about situations in a more positive light.
About a month ago I listened to an amazing podcast by The Skinny Confidential. The podcast episode is called, Misery Loves Company – An Argument for More Positivity. You can find the episode for free on Apple Podcasts.
I liked this episode because it talks about why positivity is so important especially in our world today. It emphasizes the fact that we are all living through a pandemic and instead of tearing each other down, especially on social media we need to rise and promote positivity.
If you have not listened to this podcast yet, please listen to it! It shares an important message and will remind you of the true importance of positivity. Also, it’s totally free on Apple Podcasts.

6. Make time to relax:
Make sure that you find time within your day to relax. Maybe you can try yoga, meditation, taking a bath, reading a book, etc.
Here are some inexpensive products that are great for relaxing and self-care!
PS. the earth therapeutics socks below are the softest socks ever! They are infused with Aloe and so comfy!!
7. Pay positivity and kindness forward!
Participating in community service is a great way to give back to others. Volunteering will help you feel more fulfilled and positive. The best part is, there are so many opportunities for service!
You never know what others are going through and your kindness has the ability to put a smile on someone’s face which is priceless.
I know volunteering in person is hard right now but here are some remote volunteer ideas you can do at home.
- Reach out to local group homes and call the elderly. This is something I have been doing to give back to my community. It is a really nice and easy way to help others. A lot of older individuals living in group homes are at risk of catching COVID. Because of this, they have very little contact with other people. Calling them would be such a nice way to add some normalcy back into their lives.
- Reach out to your local food bank and see is there is any way you can help remotely. When schools close, a lot of kids miss out on meals that they would have been provided. Finding a way to help your food bank could help feed families in need.
- Thank hospital workers for risking their health every day to help sick individuals recover. You can try sending them cards or posting your gratification online. They are real heroes and should be thanked every day.
- Reach out to group homes to see if they are accepting cards. Some places are still accepting cards. It may be a nice gesture to write a resident a note just to brighten up their day. If they are not accepting cards, you can film a short video just saying hello and that you are thinking of them.
- Donate to an organization helping those in need during this time.
I hope that these self-care practices help you!
